How to remove soot
My partner Joan doesn’t like soot. Joan explained that holding a candle wick 0.25 inches from the top will stop soot from forming on the top of the candle. If the wick is longer than a quarter of an inch, it will only burn the soot and not the candle below. Good quality candles from reputable companies tend to have less soot. A lumo cover over the sail is good for airflow and stopping soot from the sail.
How long will a candle burn?
I had one last question for Joan, how long is a candle likely to last? She said the formula is the full weight divided by the burn rate. When you light the candle frequently it will also help as the wax that forms on the side of the candle when it is lit will solidify and need to be burned again. When this got too much for me, she said that a 2 ounce candle would take 10 hours to burn.
