So you just took a chance and invested in a new or “new to you” RV. In this time of economic uncertainty I say GOOD FOR YOU! If you can afford to take the plunge, more power to you.

Usually the first step after purchase is to make sure everything works on the coach, then take a good long drive, hopefully at least overnight. After a few more trips, you should know your new toy pretty well.

Okay, now the season is over and everyone camped out for the year (boy, that didn’t take long, I hope it was fun). What do we do with this thing now to keep it clean and dry during the winter? Maybe you are one of the lucky ones with warm and dry interior storage. That seems to be a pretty small percentage of the population, so if you’re reading this, I’m guessing you’re out of luck.

You can always rent a gated RV storage facility. If that’s in the BIG budget. There is probably no need for you to read on. Prices for that luxury in most areas of the US range from around $150 up to $500 per month. There is a less expensive alternative.

RV storage covers can get the job done for as little as $5 to $15 per month, amortized over an average lifespan of 36 months. Inexpensive units are available that will fit a variety of different RVs, from 8-foot truck-slide RVs to luxury RVs over 40 feet long.

Some of the nicer, higher quality covers come contoured to fit setups. Typically, one person can install or remove this type of cover in less than half an hour, even on larger Class A RVs. Designer style graphics and color schemes make them aesthetically pleasing so you don’t have to look like a big blue plastic tarp in your driveway.

Do you need access to the inside of your pride and joy when it’s in storage? Most of the mid to high priced units these days have zippered doors to let you in in just a few seconds. No need to spend half a day uncovering and then redoing all the plastic cover mess for just a few minutes of access.

When all is said and done, a high quality storage cover is a very good investment to protect your rather expensive investment.
