Oahu is probably most famous for its surfing competitions, especially on the north shore. Fear not, though there are plenty of great places to skimboard on Oahu.

So let’s start here.

The south coast:

1. Sandy Beach is a good place, it is a bit crowded but it has a strong surf.

2. Waikiki isn’t as great during the day, but after the sun goes down the game is on.

3. Ewa Beach/Barbers Point: Small waves crash onto the shore, but this beach is never crowded.

The West Coast:

1. Yokohama Bay has a large, thick shoreline with good potential for lateral washout with the correct wave direction. This is a local place so be courteous to them, they are very protective of their areas.

2. Makaha has great waves on the coast, this place is also a local area, so keep that in mind.

3. Also along the west coast there are many small beaches, so keep your eyes open while driving.

The north coast:

1. Waimea has great breakwaters when it breaks, sometimes the sandbars can be a problem so keep your eyes open.

2. Some other places like Pipeline, Sunset have rest days due to the moving sand bars, however they are usually good after a couple of calm days in the big waves.

On the East Coast:

1. Pounders has a small break with potential for sidewall overtopping, although this beach is often crowded.

2. Makapuu is further away than the others, making it hard to hit any of the BIG waves. In the past, this beach was reserved for royalty only.
