Although it may seem like logical and effective leadership, when it comes to public / elected officials, rarely, in the real world, do we witness this behavior – often enough! Perhaps more than ever, in recent memory, we have witnessed some president and / or presidential administration that seems, in many ways, as ill-prepared as this one. Quality leadership must signify and represent, looking at the bigger picture and long term, considering a variety of options, alternatives and possibilities, with an open mind and prioritizing workable solutions, rather than populist promises and rhetoric. Unfortunately, the current pandemic clearly demonstrates how, when a president does not fully prepare himself, refers to science as a hoax, denies facts, and articulates contradictory messages, our nation suffers, from the lack of a quality, well-prepared plan of action! , strategically designed and well considered! With that in mind, this article will briefly attempt to consider, examine, review, and discuss 5 potentially disastrous decisions (or failure to make one) that we witnessed, before, at the start of, and leading up to, this recent health emergency.

1. Dissolution of the Pandemic Unit of the Center for Disease Control (CDC), approximately 2 years ago: When President Trump, in an apparent attempt to demonstrate his emphasis and focus, ended up telling the entire CDC Pandemic Unit that they would have to relocate, the department was basically disbanded and not replaced. When the first possibility of a potential global health challenge presented itself, in 2019, we lacked the scientific experts to prepare and proactively plan accordingly.

two. The emergence of doubting science: Whether or not he does so, the current occupant of the White House often articulates a message that seems to doubt and mistrust science. Whether it’s climate change, environmental protection, or health preparedness, this behavior and attitude has led to fewer scientific experts to trust, until and during this pandemic.

3. Calling it a hoax: Until, until a few weeks ago, Trump referred to this, as a hoax, and / or, politically motivated, by his political opponents! The ever-changing narrative has confused many of us and left large numbers of Americans unsure of what the true facts are. Trump’s constant focus of blaming and complaining to others and avoiding any personal responsibility and / or even setting an example for others to follow has made the situation even more challenging!

Four. Not earning our trust: If our leaders fail to earn our trust, it becomes much more difficult for us to follow their instructions and believe, they know what is needed and what is necessary! When, we need to be more united, to fight, a common enemy, their polarizing behavior, actions and apparent lack of knowledge and empathy, they become our enemy!

5. Late to prepare: As soon as the first evidence of this Coronavirus, all over the world, he made himself known, instead of preparing, our President articulated a message, of denial! When the World Health Organization (WHO) offered test kits last December, their administration rejected them, and we are currently struggling, hard enough, to test for infection, etc.

The attitude of a national leader, when he denies facts and / or reality, often has ramifications! From the initial stages, through rhetoric, changing stories, and a lack of quality leadership, for example, this has apparently put our citizens at greater risk than we could be otherwise!
