If you have an infestation of silverfish insects in your home, then you may have already realized that these insensitive little critters not only have despicable attitudes toward most items in your home, but are also nearly impossible to eradicate. Internet forums are full of horror stories of people struggling to get rid of these pests from their homes despite spending a great deal of money on pesticides. If you have the same difficulty and are wondering why these mistakes just can’t be defeated, here are three little things you might not know about these relentless mistakes.

1) They know how to play.

Silverfish insects are nocturnal creatures. They are also sharp, intelligent, and exceptionally fast at hide and seek. Trying to eliminate them with pesticides may produce modest results in the short term, but it will cost you a tremendous amount of money and precious time in the long term. It is humanly impossible to reach these insects in their designated living environments. They reside within walls, crevices, pipes, ceilings, basements, attics, between bookshelves, kitchen cabinets, cabinets, and any hidden dark spaces in your home.

And what is more surprising, silverfish insects are immune to almost all highly recommended pesticides that are widely available on the market. The few that can kill them are also dangerous to your health and to other household pets like cats, dogs, and fish. Over time, it may be successful in killing a small percentage of silverfish insects, but it is unlikely that it will reach the nucleus and remove their eggs.

2) High humidity and temperature in your home are the number one reason you will never leave your dream locations.

Silverfish insects favor cool, humid environments with humidity levels ranging from 75% to 95%, and a temperature ranging from 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. As long as your home encompasses these deciding factors, it is highly unlikely that you will ever find a method or product that will eliminate these errors permanently. Unless you address the causes of the high humidity and temperature pathway, these creatures will continue to lay eggs, molt, and ruin not only your precious items, but also other household items that contain starches and polysaccharides.

3) Keeping your items safe will never starve them.

Although they have a huge appetite for items that contain polysaccharides, silverfish bed bugs can also survive without substances for more than a year. Hiding all the items that are high in carbohydrates, protein, and dextrin can deter these insects from causing severe damage, but it won’t force them out of your home. In either case, they can feed on their own external skeletons and other dead insects while continuing to multiply. They may enjoy shredding your items, but these items are not one of the main factors that define their existence.

One of the most effective methods that I think you can use is: find out WHAT is causing the high humidity in your home and then act quickly to rectify these causes. But first you need to understand its biological makeup.
