All indoor and outdoor games have their own specific terminology. Thorough knowledge of the terms used in online rummy can enhance your understanding of this game. If you want to learn how to play Rummy or are new to the game, it is a good idea to review the terms that are used frequently. All rummy formats on most online Rummy portals (Pool, Point, Deal and Rummy tournaments) use the terms listed below.

Draw: Choose a card or discard it. Every time you choose a card at the time of your move, it is called a draft. In each game there is a slot to collect and a slot to discard.

Discard: When you put the card on the discard pile, you discard it because it is useless. In simple words, to discard is to get rid of a card.

Joker – The printed joker from the deck is used in the game. It has no points. To make the game interesting, a joker is chosen at the beginning of the game and treated as a joker. The other three cards of this particular number are treated as wild cards and have points. All Joker cards can be used to form impure sets and sequences.

Declare: if the player wants to end the game, when he has served the purpose of the game, that means he has formed all the sequences and sets, declare the game. Surprisingly, this can happen even on the first move, as the cards may already be in the correct order.

Round: While playing rummy online, all players perform their moves turn by turn. When all players finish making their first move, it is called the first round. Each game of rummy can last up to 13 rounds as there are 13 cards in each player’s hand or the game can end in 3 or 4 rounds as well.

Drop: Players can stop playing whenever they want. Usually this is because they have too many sets and sequences of shapeless cards in hand. They can have very high and bad cards or do not have the ability to fuse them before their opponents. Players get predetermined points in the event of a fall. A player will accumulate minimum points if he chooses to fall before or at the time of his first turn.

Merge: When the cards are formed in sets and sequences, it is called a combination.

Show: There may be a valid or invalid program. Show valid means that all cards are combined into proper sequences and sets. Show invalid means that some of the cards are not combined correctly and the player has put on a show.

Deck of cards: is the number of cards that are used in a particular game. In a deck there are 52 cards and a printed joker. In two decks there are 104 along with two printed jokers. In three decks there are 156 cards along with three printed jokers.

First Life: When the player leaves the game on the first move, it is called the first life, as he scores 20 points and is able to play on the second deal.

Second life: the player has the option to leave the game at any time. If he falls after the first move, he scores 40 points and is called a second life or intermediate fall.

Practice Game – When players are allowed to play all versions of the game, point rummy, pool, and deals, without paying any match fees, it is called a practice game. Free rummy games are played with practice tokens that cost you nothing. You are assigned some practice tokens when you first sign up to a rummy site. If it runs out, you can ask for a little more to be credited to your account. Practice Tokens cannot be exchanged for cash at any time.
