1. Get a full medical checkup before you start juicing

Without a doubt, the first step that I would recommend to anyone who is about to buy mangosteen juice is to have a full health check with your doctor before you start taking it. That way, you can monitor what, if any, changes occur in your body while you drink the juice, creating, in effect, your own clinical study.

2. Try to keep track of your progress

Since medical science promotes healthy eating as a means of reducing many bodily ailments (and consequently the need for medication), mangosteen juice should be considered a superfood, which can have surprising and sudden beneficial effects.

So if you are taking any prescription medication to save your life, for example:

  • heart disease
  • nephropathy
  • Diabetes
  • Depression
  • Bipolar disorder etc.

Tell your doctor that you are taking mangosteen juice as a health supplement and that it may, unlikely as it may seem, affect your prescription drug needs. You should schedule regular checkups, because if your medication needs to be altered or stopped, having a doctor oversee the process is highly recommended.

In addition to medical changes, it can also watch if your behavior changes, such as if you have:

  • different sleep patterns
  • increased joint flexibility
  • increased libido
  • Reduced cravings for stimulating foods such as tea, coffee, soft drinks, junk food, etc. [Incidentally, if that occurs, you may find the juice pays for itself in savings!] etc

as sometimes, such changes can sneak up on you, and can be missed if not noted. Mind you, if that happens and you stop drinking the juice or run out, these symptoms will almost certainly return and you will be well aware of what the juice can and cannot do for you!

3. Always shake the bottle before pouring your mangosteen juice.

While the fresh mangosteen fruit has a delicate and luscious flavor, the biggest benefits are the natural phytonutrients found in its extremely bitter rind (the pericarp). These include:

  • 42 super antioxidants, called “xanthones” and
  • various flavonoids, including catechins
  • Let the truth be known:

The mangosteen “juice” you buy is not pure mangosteen! In fact, it’s usually a cocktail of fruit juices subtly blended with the best of modern food science to cover the flavor of crushed, boiled mangosteen rind. However, you will surely notice that there is a heavier “pulp” that settles to the bottom of the bottle. That pulp likely contains much of the mangosteen pericarp puree, so you should always remember to shake the bottle before pouring the juice, so that the pericarp is distributed (more or less) evenly in each glass.

4. Never drink from the bottle

While it may sound like a nagging mother, I would still stress that you should never drink mangosteen juice straight from the bottle. This is not just due to manners, but because saliva contains enzymes, and one of their main functions is to help break down food. If even a small amount of your saliva finds its way back into the rest of the contents, it will cause contamination and the juice will begin to break down, becoming less effective the longer it’s kept.

5. Always drink mangosteen juice with some food

Mangosteen’s xanthones, its super antioxidants, are fat-soluble, which means you need to consume some oil or fat to digest them properly. So if you drink mangosteen juice on an empty stomach, you might get the taste of mangosteen juice, but your body won’t be able to extract much of the goodness and your juice will mostly just pass through your system, coming out very expensive urine. Fortunately, you only need to eat something small that contains oil, like peanut butter on a cracker, for the xanthones breakdown process to happen efficiently.

6. Consider using mangosteen juice as a mouthwash

Instead of quickly drinking your juice, consider gulping the mangosteen juice around your mouth and covering your gums with small pieces of pericarp debris. Think of it like a free mouthwash, and your dentist may be surprised with the results!

7. Always carefully rinse the glass you use and drink the contents later.

You will notice that after you have drunk your mangosteen juice, some pericarp remains covering the glass. Never throw that away! Always add a little more water and drink it (or have it later if you don’t want to dilute the “mouthwash” effect).

That same thought should also apply when you finish a bottle of juice. Always fill it with a little water and collect the pericarp from inside the bottle. Every additional xanthone helps!

8. Try to keep your mangosteen juice refrigerated

While mangosteen juice, like most fruit juices, tastes best when cold, you should also keep in mind that on hot days, there is a small chance that it will go bad if left out. However, if it does, don’t throw away that precious juice! Place the juice in a saucepan and reduce to approximately 40% of its initial volume. Then scrape what’s left into a clean bowl and store the resulting mangosteen juice paste in your fridge. When needed, mix some of the paste with hand or skin cream and apply topically to:

* cuts

* Burns

* stains

* gold grains

* Insect bites, etc.

You will be surprised how effective it is!

9. Drink Small Amounts Of Mangosteen Juice Throughout The Day

Finally, try to spread your mangosteen juice throughout the day, as its half-life, the length of time mangosteen juice works in your body, is about 4-8 hours. Therefore, it is better to take several small doses spread throughout the day (around the three main meals) than to take it all at once. That way, the xanthones are working in your system 24 hours a day.
