As a leader, there are certain qualities and characteristics of Lions that you may find it helpful to consider, for you and your “pride.” Let’s take a few minutes to explore these and, as with all metaphors, we’re not going to kill this one.

1.Protection

You don’t have to watch many Discovery Channel shows about lions to realize how protective they are: of territory, of themselves, of their cubs, etc. As for being more lion-like, what do you need to protect yourself from? Protected from yourself? Your money? Your children? Your classmate? Your spouse? Your business? your colleagues? your location? your beliefs? So what exactly do you need to protect yourself from?

2. brave

Being like a lion means that you are brave and courageous. Naturally, you choose when and where to be brave vs. timid, brave vs. cowardly. We all make decisions every day. Look for opportunities today and every day where you can be brave. It makes a difference, both for you and for others.

3. Willing to fight

Hmm… we know that the lions will fight when necessary. They do not pick a fight, but because they are willing to protect their food, their mates, their territory, etc., they will fight if necessary. What is the one thing you are willing to fight for?

Many readers are parents and I suppose that many parents would be willing to fight for their children. Or maybe you are a professor who is willing to fight back when he sees other faculty members being harassed. Perhaps you are a teacher fighting for particular students who need your “protection.”

What it is for you? Actually. What are you willing to fight for? The only thing?

4. Hunters

MANY people are worried about financial issues right now. Someone wrote to me recently that they had overheard high school girls in the bathroom at a movie talking about how they needed to find some ways to make money because after the legislature was over, their parents weren’t going to be able to give them movie money any longer. You could be one of the people who is “hunting” for money. You may be looking for it for your own personal situation or you are looking for money for projects at work or for community needs and the like.

But what else are we lions looking for? You could describe it like this:

  • Courage to find what really makes me happy
  • Courage to ignore what others feel is successful and find my own success
  • Courage to dare to make dramatic changes in my career path that will also change my personal life…and vice versa

What are you hunting? And like a lion in the savannah, you may or may not find it, but you hunt regardless.

5. Group members (part of a pride)

6. Loners in the grand scheme of things

The last two: being part of a group (ie pack) and also being a bit of a loner in the grand scheme of things, let’s think about this together.

As a person looking for ways to stay positive, no matter how crazy things are around us, we need to see ourselves as part of a pride: a team, a family, a group, an association, a community or whatever. . you could call it We have to deliberately gather our group, small or large, to help us in our, if I may use this word, survival. Lions are not part of prides for no reason. There is a reason. You need a “pride” of your own if you want to “survive” in your positive place.

And, here’s the other part (at least as my little brain sees this), we’re also loners in the larger scheme of things. What I mean by that is, just like lions don’t hang out with all the other animals, they hang out, sometimes completely alone, but certainly mostly just with a few other lions, it’s possible that sometimes too. we need to separate.
