I get this question numerous times within my immediate circle: “I am a new reader, what books should I start with?” Well, I keep telling people to first understand what their preferences are and then decide which authors to choose. While that helps in some cases, some people know they want to read fiction, but want help deciding on the authors. They want something simple with which to embark on their reading journey, and “no classics” is what is often attached to the question above. So, based on my own early reading experiences, I decided to put together a list of authors that beginners might find interesting and educational, and that would potentially and hopefully allow them to delve into more illustrious authors.

Rene goscinny

The popular French author is best known for his witty “Asterix” comic series. These books, translated into English by Anthea Bell and Dere Hockridge, are much more than just comics. Although the author’s work can be categorized as “light reading”, one begins to appreciate the true brilliance of the books by inquiring into the appearances, dialogue, wit and sarcasm of the characters and, most importantly, the moral behind of the stories. Pick up your Asterix collection at your nearby bookstore, and watching time just flies by.

Dan Brown

You may be one of those people who has, without fail, seen every movie in the Robert Langdon series, but never laid hands on their written counterparts. It can also be someone who has never seen movies. Either way, Dan Brown is a great way to get into contemporary literature. While some parts of your work may seem a bit gory, you are always within the bounds of a moderately weak mind. However, the most interesting parts of his novels are not the adventures, but the trivia. Brown researches well, and as a new reader, you end up learning a lot.

Christie Agatha

Better known as the queen of crime, Christie is much more than a bunch of detective stories. You can also get the Nancy Drew series mystery solving adventure, but what sets Christie apart is her psychological portrayals of the characters. Created at a time when there was a need to unite the classic and the contemporary, his work takes the leap to a new level of realism mixed with high-pitched drama. Easy to read, as well as making you think, that’s the combination you get with any of his books.

JK Rowling

Although she has earned her fame through the Harry Potter series, and there is a whole world of fans living and breathing the world that Harry and his friends go to school in at Hogwarts, Rowling cannot be understated as a read. suitable for a beginner. . Whether you’re a movie fan or not, books are hard to miss if you’re a new reader. His descriptions are realistic and his imagination surreal, not to mention his ability to tie up loose ends in perfect solidarity with the story. Get hold of the book series and get lost in the world of dragons and unicorns.

Satyajit ray

Not many people who don’t read and speak the regional Indian “Bengali” language would know that the world-famous Oscar-winning filmmaker was also a terrific writer. Ray, known in the literary world primarily for his gripping stories and detective novels, wrote in lucid, everyday language, making his books a favorite of teenagers who simply wanted to relax between two days of exams. Quality English translations of your work are available at most online bookstores.

There are several other authors you could think of for a beginner, and probably better ones, however these five are just to help someone who has no idea where they should start.
