Step 1: Buy only 100% Pure Hoodia Gordonii. There are 13 known species of Hoodia plants, but only Hoodia Gordonii contains the active ingredients that are effective in suppressing appetite. Products labeled “100% Natural Hoodia” may contain little or no Hoodia Gordonii plant. Unless you are buying 100% Hoodia Gordonii, you are wasting your money.

Step 2: Buy only products derived from the aerial parts (stem) of the Hoodia Gordonii plant. These are the fleshy fingers of the Hoodia plant and are considered to be the most powerful part of the Hoodia plant for suppressing appetite. Products containing bark, roots, or other plant parts are thought to be less effective and a waste of money.

Step 3: Avoid products that contain fillers, additives, bulking agents or other active ingredients. The label must state that the product contains only 100% Pure Hoodia Gordonii. Products containing “proprietary blends” should be avoided. Always check the label for the amount of Hoodia contained in each serving to ensure you are getting the recommended daily amount. Stay away from any company that is inaccurate in listing its ingredients or does not display its product label online.

Step 4: Avoid products that contain fat burners or other stimulants. These work by increasing your metabolic rate and have adverse side effects. Hoodia Gordonii is very effective in suppressing appetite without increasing metabolism. Your goal is to consume fewer calories than you normally would, allowing you to eat healthier, lighter meals.

Step #5Note: The hoodia product must display a CITES Certificate issued by Cape Nature of South Africa. This certificate validates the authenticity and country of origin. The certificate guarantees that the raw materials used for processing into the product are authentic South African hoodia. Make sure the copy of the Certificate is clear and legible and is not a forgery. CITES stands for “The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora”, and since the Hoodia plant is a protected plant species, it can only be sold to exporters who have obtained this certificate. The certificate also ensures that the hoodia has been sourced legally, thus ensuring that the San Bushmen receive their fair share of royalties.

Step #6: In addition to step 5, make sure the product contains an independent lab report issued by Alkemists Pharmaceuticals or ChromaDex. It is very difficult to distinguish between Hoodia Gordonii and the other varieties of Hoodia. The lab authenticates the origin and quality of the hoodia in the product, and without it there really is no way of knowing that the product you are buying is authentic and of the highest quality. You can be sure that all premium hoodia brands show this report, while the ‘scammers’ do not. The report must have a lot number verifying that the lot tested corresponds to the lot number on the product label. Avoid companies that do in-house testing or use labs other than Alkemist Pharmaceuticals or ChromaDex.

Step #7: Avoid products that claim to contain large amounts of Hoodia in each pill or liquid extract. These companies are making false claims or have significantly diluted their product with fillers, additives, or other bulking agents. 100% pure Hoodia Gordonii is expensive, with a market value ranging from $275 to $320 per kilo. What they are offering sounds too good to be true. Also, taking large amounts of Hoodia is wasteful and, like any natural or over-the-counter product, could be dangerous to your health.

Step #8: Avoid products like hoodia patches, gum, teas, coffees and smoothies. These are just gimmicks and, in all probability, a waste of your money. Stick with the Hoodia pills and liquid extracts for now, they are proven to work. Once you find a brand that works, you can always try their other products in combination.

Step #9: Be wary of any company that offers a FREE TRIAL of hoodia products. Stay away from any company that requires you to agree to receive the Hoodia product on an ongoing basis by accepting their FREE TRIAL offer. These companies ship the product to you every month and charge your credit card without you having to initiate recurring transactions. It was reported that in many of these FREE TRIAL offers, the hoodia wasn’t even authentic, and to make matters worse, it was almost impossible to get the companies to stop shipping products and billing your credit card every month. Reputable companies will send you friendly reminders when it’s time to reorder a product. You decide if you want to reorder and initiate the credit card transaction.

Step #10Note: Buy from companies that let you try Hoodia for free for up to 30 days, and if you’re not completely satisfied with the product, return it for a refund. You usually have to pay return shipping and in some cases a small restocking or handling fee. Be sure to check the company’s website and read all the terms and conditions that apply to returning the product. Some offers are only valid for single bottle orders. Stay away from any company that doesn’t have a clearly defined refund policy. After all, you want to be able to test your product to see if it really works.

Step #11– Select an established business and make sure they have a customer support phone number, not just an email address. Also check the reputation of the company by searching the Internet; You can uncover a lot of dirt on a company just by searching for the brand name and including the word “scam” in the search box. If the business is located in the United States, check with the Better Business Bureau for a report on the business’s market history. Look for a “trust mark” from BBBOnLine or another reputable organization and click on that seal to confirm that it is valid.

Step #12: The Internet is awash with Hoodia product reviews and charts comparing the best brands. You should be aware that some review sites are set up for one brand over other competing brands. In fact, a couple of sites, which often appear on page #1 of the search engine, have the brands with the highest number of complaints ranking first. As convincing as these review sites may seem, you should always do your due diligence and find other independent and unbiased sources of information.
