The big push back to normalization now that a vaccine has come out has only just begun. But how can we define normal when the entire world is caught in the grip of financial and economic devastation? Devastation caused by years of belligerent, insensitive and self-serving positions of political convenience that always ignore the cries of the impoverished multitudes. Can we now define normal as it was before the Pandemic? Or will a new rule readjust the lives and livelihoods of Americans?

Everything indicates that a large part of American society faced an economic deterioration for years that has steadily receded. When we allowed this pandemic to spread across the country, bringing death and financial destruction not seen since the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918 and the Great Depression of the 1930s, a new rule was introduced that is far removed from the reality that many Americans aspired to achieve. This vaccine is not the savior to return to a normality full of realistic aspirations that can be fulfilled if there is political will to do so.

All signs of years of political infighting where compromise is never in the equation for the common good of all have made the United States incapable of achieving a balanced and stable society. So, by responding, the United States can return to a normality that depends on the normality of the political winds. If the political winds blow in the direction they currently blow, a new norm will be like the old norm before this pandemic. With all the hype about the vaccine and with the political environment in Washington, even with an incoming president, the return to normalcy will continue to leave out the millions of Americans who are trapped in a vicious cycle of poverty.

Since this pandemic, he has realized that as of 9/11, for the sake of national security, society must accept and adhere to a new normal. The subtle position of personal restrictions has corresponded with protocols that supposedly ensure public safety. The loss of freedoms for the sake of public safety is now the new norm that we as citizens must accept. Now, as this pandemic has spread to every corner of the United States, the scientific and medical establishment has fully endorsed the requirements necessary to stop the spread of this deadly virus. For everyone’s safety, we must agree to certain requirements that have proven very effective in stopping the spread of infectious viruses. Tested from years of objective experience fighting deadly viruses.

When people discard or ignore these proven methods, they endanger the health and safety of society. A new norm, yes, but for the health and safety of all Americans, this is now the norm until Covid-19 is eradicated. We must remember that these safety protocols are very efficient in reducing other illnesses such as the common cold and the flu. Personal responsibility for our actions always has ramifications for others.

Now, when we think back to the years since 1963, the technological and medical advances that have improved and are supposed to improve the quality of life for everyone, have always come with certain restrictions and have invariably caused the loss of individual freedoms. We have reached a point in the last year where the actions taken in response to this pandemic is where society is being drawn into a realm of reality where the government has turned democratic societies on their head. Now the people are no longer in control of the government, but the government controls the people. And given today’s dilemma, once government is given power over society, it never reverts the package back to society.

Since 1963 we have seen the greatest advances in technological science and medical achievements in the shortest amount of time. We have also seen our government place more restrictions on our individual freedoms due to the technological, scientific, and medical advances that have been made. What society must do is realize what is really happening to our democratic republic. Now we have to be very vigilant in monitoring how much of our freedoms we must lose for the sake of national security and public health. Hopefully we can take back a lot of our individual freedoms, but only if we realize what has happened and is happening today in Washington.
