Are you going to the dog track just for fun? You don’t like big downsides because you don’t spend a lot of money on them and don’t worry if you lose a few bucks? How much have you lost on the track in the last month? Honestly?

Fun is fun, but losing money is something to be taken very seriously. Even if you have money to spare, earning money is still more fun than handing it over to the cashiers before the race and knowing that it is gone. If you want your fun to be more fun, take your disability a little more seriously.

Get yourself a system and learn how to use it. It doesn’t have to be complicated or time consuming. What you need is just a small detail to organize yourself further and help you choose the winners with a little experience. Then when you redeem your tickets, you can tell your friends how you knew enough to pick that risky bet or roll the 7 on the trifecta.

Anything worth doing, even a hobby, is worth doing well. Winning is even more fun than losing. So why not put in a little effort to become a better handicapper? It doesn’t have to be time consuming and it doesn’t have to be like learning algebra in high school.

Get a simple system, one that chooses spot plays or gives you the basics, and review it at home. When you get the hang of it, try it out on paper. When you master it, take it to the track and have fun with it.
