Dish Network subscribers can get massive programming and remote access capability to Dish by connecting any of Dish Network’s ViP DVRs to Internet service. With a combination of ViP DVR and Internet service, subscribers can provide instant access to thousands of on-demand movies, pay-per-view movies, and events. They can access Dish Remote Access to control DVRs, configure recordings remotely, and much more. Subscribers must connect any of Dish Network’s ViP DVRs to the Internet. This article explains the different ways to connect the ViP DVR to Internet service.
Subscribers can connect their ViP DVR to the Internet service in mainly three different ways. Potential subscribers can have any ViP Dish Network DVR. Below is a brief note on each Dish Network ViP DVR.
DVR ViP on Dish Network:
- ViP922 Slingloaded DVR: The ViP922 Slingloaded DVR with built-in Sling technology includes TV Everywhere service and many other useful features. With this DVR, subscribers can watch shows on TV and mobile devices, watch one show while recording another, and so on. This single DVR is capable of multiple functions at the same time.
- DuoDVR ViP 722k: A single DuoDVR ViP 722k can be connected to two televisions (one SD and one HD). Supports independent viewing on separate TVs. Program recording can be done while watching another program. Other advanced features are combined in this DVR.
- Duo ViP 222k: Duo ViP 222k DVR can be connected to two televisions (one HD and one SD). Supports independent TV viewing on the two televisions located in separate rooms. For HD content, you can play all HD screen resolutions and Dolby Digital sound.
- Only ViP 612 DVR: Only ViP 612 DVR can be connected to a high definition TV. It has a built-in DVR that can be configured to record.
- ViP 211k only: Only ViP 211k can be connected to a single HD TV. This DVR offers a number of functions along with good sound and quality picture.
Ways to connect any ViP series DVR to the Internet: As mentioned above, there are three ways to connect a ViP series DVR to the Internet. Are:
- Wired connection
- Wireless connection
- Slinglink Turbo connection
Wired connection:
- Connect the Ethernet cable from the port located on the back of the ViP DVR receiver to an open port on the router.
- Check the connection by pressing Menu on the Dish Network Remote. Select System Settings → Diagnostics → Connection. If the result says “Broadband connection successful”, go back to programming.
- If by any chance the test shows a failure message, check all connections, reboot the router, and repeat the test.
Wireless connection:
- Connect the Dish Wireless connector to the USB extender. After that, connect the USB extender to the USB port located on the back of the ViP DVR receiver.
- Now select “Settings” from the message that appears on the screen. Then select a wireless network from the list that appears on the screen and select “Done”.
- Enter the password for the wireless network and select “Done”. Check that the wireless signal reading on the screen is greater than 40. If so, select “OK”.
- Check the connection by pressing Menu on the Dish Network Remote. Select System Settings → Diagnostics → Connection. If the result says “Broadband connection successful”, go back to programming.
- If by any chance the test shows a failure message, check all connections, reboot the router, and repeat the test.
Slinglink Turbo connection
- First, find the outlet near the modem / router, and then connect the SlingLink Turbo connector.
- Connect an Ethernet cable from the modem / router port to the Ethernet port of the SlingLink Turbo connector.
- Restart the DVR receiver. To do this, unplug the receiver from the power source and hold it for a minimum of 10 seconds and plug it back in. It will take 5 minutes for the receiver to reboot.
- Check the connection by pressing Menu on the Dish Network Remote. Select System Settings → Diagnostics → Connection. If the result says “Broadband connection successful”, go back to programming.
- If by any chance the test shows a failure message, check all connections, reboot the router, and repeat the test.

Dish Remote Access – When subscribers have their ViP DVR connected to home broadband, they can access Dish Remote Access. Dish Remote Access is a Dish Network application that subscribers can download for free on compatible smartphones, PCs and laptops. With this app, subscribers can manage their DVR library remotely via PC and mobile devices. The iPhone and iPad can be used as a receiver for the turntable remote control. Subscribers can browse and search for shows in the program guide. They can even schedule recordings and erase old ones.
