When people imagine being a soccer player, the position in which they often imagine themselves playing the quarterback position. The quarterback takes the field and is inspired by the respect of his teammates. Because expectations of quarterbacks are so high, many fail, but others can seize their opportunity and create a lasting legacy for themselves. College football quarterbacks, in particular, have made their mark on the game.

The first quarterback to be mentioned on this list is Tim Tebow. Many have a negative opinion of Tebow for his failures in professional soccer and the hype from the sports media, but no one can deny that he was an incredible quarterback for Florida. He is one of the few players to spend four years in the college ranks and that really improves his stats. In his four seasons, Tebow threw for more than 9,000 yards and 88 touchdowns. Those stats are impressive enough as they are, but Tebow was also a threat running the ball, gaining just under 3,000 yards and hitting it 57 times. These statistics are ridiculous and Tebow brings even more to the table with two Maxwell Awards, an All American selection and a Heisman Trophy.

Closely following Tebow in the discussion is former Nebraska quarterback Tommie Frazier. Frazier was an incredible athlete in Nebraska and finished his career throwing for 3,500 yards and 43 touchdowns. Frazier was also a good scrambler like Tebow, rushing for just under 2,000 career yards with 36 touchdowns. What really sets Frazier apart from the rest is his praise and leadership. Frazier was a consensus All American and won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award in 1995. Frazier also led the Cornhuskers to two consecutive first division national championships during his tenure.

The last quarterback to qualify for this honor is Davey O’Brien. Playing college football back in the 1930s, O’Brien was a driving force for the Horned Frogs. In 1938, he had an incredible season throwing for 1,500 yards and 19 touchdowns, a lot for the time. O’Brien also knew how to fight, rushing for 400 yards and three touchdowns. O’Brien also led TCU to the national championship that season and became the first player to be a consensus All American and win the Maxwell and Heisman trophies in the same season. The award given to the best quarterback in college football each year is also made in the name of O’Brien.

While there are unlimited quarterbacks that could stand out on this list, these three quarterbacks deserve to be some of the first mentioned.
