Belkin is also introducing new Belkin N600 routers, including the Belkin Play N600 F7D8302 and F7D8301 Play N600 HD. Both Belkin N600 routers are new products. Both are equipped with USB port to allow you to share storage or printer. To build a wireless home network with your existing modem (either cable or DSL), you need a wireless router to share your broadband Internet connection and other network resources, such as storage and printer sharing. Before you need to decide which one is the best for your needs, you must first learn about its features. Both Belkin and Netgear routers work with the latest 802.11n wireless technology with smart antenna MIMO technology for faster, longer-distance coverage. The routers also support simultaneous dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency. Belkin uses dual-plane antennas to provide great coverage in the home.
LAN and WAN interfaces
Belkin N600 is equipped with Gigabit ports for high-speed data transfer. With gigabit ports, you can play smooth and responsive multiplayer games. Netgear N600 is equipped with Fast-Ethernet 10/100Mbps, not gigabit ports. This is fast enough for a normal wired connection to computers, but not fast enough for high-rate data transfer, video streaming, and multiplayer gaming.
USB port
Belkin N600 routers are integrated with two USB ports to allow you to share external storage and printer at the same time. The router supports USB hard drives that are formatted in FAT 16/32 and NTFS file systems.
Belkin also includes the Torrent Mate app to help you manage your Torrent download so you can keep downloading even when your computer is off. The router also includes the Print Zone app to help you manage print jobs from any computer within the network wirelessly.
The Netgear N600 includes a USB port, but it is not designed for printer sharing. The port with its ReadySHARE technology is used for USB storage access sharing that supports FAT16/32, NTFS read/write. If you need to share the printer within the network, you need to add a print server. So if the printer is very important in your network, you better go for Belkin N600 routers.
Secure guest access
The Belkin N600 supports a single SSID for your wireless network name. But Netgear N600 supports multiple SSIDs. With multiple SSIDs, you can create a separate security boundary for secure guest access. Secure Guest Access or Multiple SSID is ideal for offices where business associates/visitors frequently come to your office and require wireless Internet access from their laptops.
So if different security policies are required for different user groups, Netgear N600 is your router. Netgear N600 also includes free Live Parental Controls for a clean Internet. But for your home network, the Belkin N600 may be your router of choice with the ability to share storage and printer at the same time.
Other features between the Belkin N600 and the Netgear N600 are almost the same, including WPA/WPA2 wireless security, NAT and SPI firewall, Quality of Service (QoS), and WMM (wireless multimedia) based QoS.
Knowing the manufacturer’s specifications is very important in deciding to purchase the router for your wireless network environment. The Belkin N600 router may be best for your home needs, but it may not be appropriate for office environments.
